Discord Fonts

Discord doesn’t let you pick a font for your messages, and only Nitro subscribers can choose one of Discord’s 12 official display name fonts. “Discord fonts” are the free workaround that works everywhere: special Unicode characters that look like bold, cursive, gothic or other lettering, which you copy and paste like normal text into names, bios, statuses and messages.

They are not font files (.ttf or .otf) and nothing is installed. The generator swaps each letter for a look-alike character from the Unicode Standard, the system every device uses to encode text. For example, the bold capital 𝐀 is a separate character, U+1D400 (“Mathematical Bold Capital A”), not a regular “A” with formatting. Because the style is part of the characters themselves, everyone else in the server sees it too, without bots, extensions or client mods.

Discord shows text in its own font, gg sans. gg sans doesn’t include most of these special characters, so your device uses a system font that does, which is why the same style can look slightly different on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.

Most styles work in every text field. The exceptions are styles built from combining marks (strikethrough, underline and Zalgo), which add an invisible character to every letter and can quickly hit length limits.

Discord can change which characters each field accepts at any time. If a style won’t save, try a simpler style from the same category or remove decorations.

Using Discord fonts on a phone works the same way as on desktop:

1. Open DiscordFonts.net in Safari, Chrome or any mobile browser.
2. Type your text into the box at the top of the page.
3. Tap COPY on the style you like.
4. Switch to the Discord app on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone.
5. Long-press the text field (chat, profile or nickname) and choose Paste.

Current versions of iOS and Android include fonts for almost every style here.

If a style shows as empty boxes (“tofu”) or question marks, or won’t save, the usual causes are:

• Missing fonts on the viewer’s device: older phones and operating systems (for example Windows 7 or old Android versions) lack fonts for newer Unicode characters. Updating the device fixes it. Bold, cursive and small caps have the widest support.
• Character limit reached: decorations, frames and combining marks all count towards Discord’s limits. Use the live counter above to check before you paste.
• Too many combining marks: heavy Zalgo text can be clipped, rejected in names, or filtered by a server’s moderation bot. Use the subtle level for anything other than chat.
