How to make your Discord name invisible
On desktop or web
- Copy the Hangul Filler character above.
- Open User Settings (the gear next to your name) → Profiles.
- Paste into Display Name and press Save Changes.
- For one server only, right-click the server icon → Edit Server Profile and paste into Server Nickname.
On iPhone or Android
- Copy the Hangul Filler character above in your phone’s browser.
- In the Discord app, tap your profile picture (the You tab) → Edit Profile.
- Long-press Display Name, paste, and save.
- For one server, open the server, tap its name → Edit Server Profile → Nickname.
If the name field looks empty after pasting, the character is there. Discord needs at least one character, and a blank character counts.
Which blank character should I use?
Discord doesn’t publish a list of allowed blank characters. Its developer documentation only says it limits “some zero-width and non-rendering characters” and trims spaces. In practice:
- Hangul Filler (
U+3164) is the usual choice for display names and nicknames, because it has a width and isn’t treated as a space. - Braille Blank (
U+2800) is the fallback if the Hangul Filler is rejected. - Zero-width space (
U+200B) on its own is usually rejected in names, but it can help in messages and statuses.
Some guides recommend the character “˞”. That is a visible phonetic mark, not a blank character, and it shows as a tiny hook next to your avatar.
How to send a blank message
Discord won’t send a message that is only spaces. The common trick is _ _: an underscore, a space and an underscore. Discord reads it as empty italics, so the message shows as a blank line. The blank-message button above copies it for you.
Invisible name not working?
- “Invalid” or the Save button stays grey: try the Braille Blank instead, or paste the character twice.
- Your @username shows instead: if the display name is empty, Discord falls back to your username, which can’t be blank.
- A moderator changed it: many servers don’t allow blank nicknames because they make members hard to identify, and AutoMod can block them. Respect the server rules.
- It looks blank to you but not to others: a few older devices draw the Hangul Filler as a box. The Braille Blank is more consistent there.
Discord Invisible Name: common questions
How do I make my Discord name invisible?
Copy the Hangul Filler character (U+3164) from this page and paste it as your display name or server nickname, then save. The name will look blank to everyone.

Discord doesn’t list blank names as a rule violation, but servers can ban them in their rules or with AutoMod, and using a blank name to impersonate or evade moderation breaks Discord’s Community Guidelines.
Can my Discord username be invisible?
No. Usernames only allow lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so only your display name and server nicknames can be blank.
How do I send an empty message on Discord?
Send _ _ (underscore, space, underscore). Discord shows it as an empty line.
What is the invisible character for Discord?
The most used one is the Hangul Filler, U+3164. The Braille Pattern Blank, U+2800, is the usual backup.
