Using symbols on Discord
Every symbol here is an ordinary Unicode character, so it works anywhere Discord accepts text: display names, server nicknames, your About Me, custom status, server names, channel names and messages. Copy a symbol, then paste it next to your name or between lines of your bio.
Symbols count towards character limits
Each symbol uses at least one of your characters, and some use more. Kaomoji like ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ are several characters long, emoji with skin tones or the ❤️ style use two or more, and a full-width divider can use 20 or more. Display names and nicknames allow 32 characters, statuses 128 and bios 190. The font generator shows a live count as you build a name.
Why some symbols look different for other people
Symbols like ☁️, ❤️ and ✨ have emoji versions, and Discord replaces them with its own emoji images. Text symbols such as ♡, ✧, ☾ and ✦ use your device’s fonts, so they can look slightly different on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android. Rare characters from scripts like Egyptian hieroglyphs (𓆩 𓆪) may show as empty boxes on older devices, so test a name on your phone before you commit to it.
Dividers for your About Me
Dividers work best on their own line between sections of your bio. Discord wraps long lines on narrow screens, so a divider that fits on desktop can break into two lines on mobile. Shorter dividers are safer.
Discord symbols FAQ
How do I put symbols in my Discord name?
Click a symbol to copy it, open User Settings → Profiles, and paste it into your display name before or after your name. For a single server, use Edit Server Profile to change your nickname instead.
How do I combine several symbols?
Click each symbol in order. Every click copies that symbol and also adds it to the Your combo box at the bottom of the panel, where you can type between them and press Copy combo to copy the whole thing.
What symbols do clan tags use?
Popular clan tag pieces are 亗, 彡, 〆, 乂, ☬, ꧁ ꧂, 【 】 and ⚔. Put the tag before your name, like 【TAG】YourName or 亗 YourName. For Discord’s official four-character Server Tags, see the server tags guide, because those only accept letters, numbers and a few basic symbols.
Can I use symbols in Discord channel names?
Yes. Server admins can add symbols and emoji to channel names. Discord converts spaces to dashes and capital letters to lowercase in text channel names, but symbols are kept. The channel name styler builds common layouts like 💬・general.
Where are the kaomoji?

Why do some symbols show as boxes?
The reader’s device has no font for that character. Most symbols here work on all current systems, but rare ones like Egyptian hieroglyphs (𓆩 𓆪) can show as □ on older phones. Test on your phone before using one in a name.
