Bold script vs. regular script
There are two cursive alphabets in Unicode, and they behave differently:
- Bold script (𝓓𝓲𝓼𝓬𝓸𝓻𝓭, from
U+1D4D0) is complete, so every letter matches the others in weight and style. - Regular script (𝒟𝒾𝓈𝒸ℴ𝓇𝒹) has gaps. Letters such as ℬ, ℰ, ℱ, ℋ, ℐ, ℒ, ℳ, ℛ, ℯ, ℊ and ℴ were already encoded in the older Letterlike Symbols block, so Unicode borrows those. On some devices they come from a different font and look slightly mismatched.
If a name looks uneven, switch to bold script. It is also easier to read at the small size Discord uses in the member list.
Where cursive works best
Cursive reads well in short text: a display name, the first line of a bio, or a status. In long chat messages it becomes hard to read quickly, so pair a cursive heading with plain text underneath. The framed styles (hearts, ribbons, sakura) add one or two symbols on each side, so check the character counter if you are close to the 32-character name limit.
How to use cursive fonts on Discord
On desktop or web
- Type your text above and press Copy on a cursive style.
- Name: User Settings → Profiles → Display Name, then paste and save.
- Bio: paste into About Me on the same page.
- Message: paste into any chat box and send.
On iPhone or Android
- Open this page in your phone’s browser and tap Copy.
- In Discord, tap your profile picture → Edit Profile.
- Long-press Display Name or About Me and paste.
- Or long-press the message box in any chat and paste.
Cursive Discord Fonts: common questions
Why do some cursive letters look different from the rest?
In regular script, about a dozen letters come from Unicode’s Letterlike Symbols block instead of the script alphabet, and devices may draw them with a different font. Bold script has no gaps, so it always looks consistent.
Do cursive fonts work on Discord mobile?
Yes. iOS and Android both include the script alphabets, so cursive names display on the mobile app the same way as on desktop.
How do I make my Discord name cursive?
Type your name on this page, copy Script Bold or another cursive style, then paste it into User Settings → Profiles → Display Name. It shows in cursive for everyone.
Is cursive the same as Discord italics?
No. *Italics* in Discord markdown only slant normal letters in messages. Cursive Unicode letters look handwritten and also work in names and statuses, where markdown doesn’t.
