How emoji letters work on Discord

Discord has an emoji for every letter from A to Z, called regional indicators. You can type them as :regional_indicator_g: or paste the emoji directly. Numbers have keycap emoji like :one: and a few symbols have their own, such as :exclamation: and . The generator handles all of these and leaves everything else as normal text.

A message that is only emoji is shown in Discord’s large “jumbo” size, so a short word in emoji letters really stands out in chat.

Why letters turn into flags (and how this avoids it)

Regional indicators were designed to make country flags: two of them side by side become a flag. Pasting 🇺 and 🇸 with nothing between them gives 🇺🇸, and 🇬🇧 is just G next to B. That is why this generator puts a space between every letter by default. With No gaps between letters it uses an invisible zero-width space instead, which keeps the letters close together without forming flags.

Spelling words with reactions

To spell a word under someone’s message, add the letters one by one as reactions. Each emoji can only be added once per message, so a word with a repeated letter, like GG, needs a stand-in for the second one:

  • Use 🅰️ 🅱️ 🅾️ 🅿️ (:a:, :b:, :o2:, :parking:) for a second A, B, O or P.
  • Use 0️⃣ for O, 1️⃣ for I or L, 3️⃣ for E and 5️⃣ for S.
  • Use ℹ️ (:information_source:) for I and Ⓜ️ (:m:) for M.

The note under the generator tells you which letters in your word repeat.

Where emoji letters work

  • Messages: both the emoji and the codes work. The codes are much longer, about 22 characters per letter, so long sentences can hit the 2,000-character limit while you type.
  • Display names and nicknames: paste the emoji version. Codes are not converted in names. Each letter plus its space uses 2 of your 32 characters.
  • Server and channel names: the emoji version works, and a single emoji letter makes a neat channel prefix like 🇷・rules.
  • Bios and statuses: use the emoji version.

Discord Emoji Letters Generator: common questions

How do you make letter emojis on Discord?

Type :regional_indicator_ followed by the letter and a colon, like :regional_indicator_a:, or use the generator on this page to convert a whole word at once and copy it.

Why do my emoji letters turn into a flag?

Two regional indicator letters next to each other form a country flag, so U and S become 🇺🇸. Put a space or a zero-width space between the letters, which this generator does for you.

How do I write numbers in emoji on Discord?

Use the keycap emoji :zero: to :nine:. The generator converts digits automatically, so 2026 becomes 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 6️⃣.

Can I react with the same letter twice?

No, each emoji can only be added once per message. Use a look-alike for repeats: 🅰️ for A, 🅱️ for B, 🅾️ or 0️⃣ for O, 🅿️ for P, or 1️⃣ for I.

Can I use emoji letters in my Discord name?

Yes, paste the emoji version into your display name or server nickname. Each letter counts as one character and each space as another, so a name in emoji letters can be up to about 16 letters.
